The Not-So-Conventional Halloween

I’ve never been Trick-Or-Treating.

I know, that sounds crazy, right?

But it’s true.

My mom was one who always did her research, and she knew the actual origins of Halloween. She was always really careful with us kids, and so she didn’t want us to get mixed up in anything more than fun, and she also didn’t want us to be scared by anyone playing any pranks, or wearing really nasty costumes.

On Organizing the Infamous Junk Drawer

When we moved into this house, I was thrilled with the amount of drawer space in the kitchen. Mind you, our apartment only had three tiny drawers in the kitchen, so there was no room for extra stuff. (There was no room for anything, really!) In my current kitchen, I have two large drawers, a medium drawer and a small drawer. That’s heaven for me!

Anyways, I swore up and down that we would NEVER have a “junk” drawer. You know the one I mean. The one that somehow everything from paper clips to flashlights and everything in between gets thrown into. And you can literally hurt yourself trying to find a singular item inside those drawers. I HATE those drawers.

But guess what. I ended up with one anyways. And really, there’s no one to blame. Well. There IS someone to blame. And that person is ME.

Because I like clean counters. I really do. I don’t like lots of stuff sitting out around the counters. It really bothers me, and it’s hard for me to cook in the kitchen when there is too much clutter everywhere. So, like happens around my house when I don’t have an organizing system in place, things get out of hand. And I had taken to shoving whatever was cluttering my counter into this one drawer that had a little extra room in it. HAD. HAD a little extra room in it.

But the other day, when I found that somehow one of our bills had made it into that drawer, and I had almost missed paying said bill, that was enough. I knew I had to organize it.

Here’s the drawer before:

60-Second Chocolate Cake

One of the first pins I ever discovered on Pinterest was for a 60-Second Chocolate Cake. I didn’t see how it could be true, honestly. Chocolate Cake in 60 seconds?! I mean…what??? Everyone loves cake, everyone loves chocolate, and who doesn’t love it in a minute flat, right?!

So I figured I’d try it. But I’d try it my own way, of course!

The pin I came across was from Trisha over at 24/7 MOMS HERE, but the pin leads you to the lovely home of Tiffany at Savor Home HERE. (You really need to go visit Savor Home – Tiffany has a fantastic spot in the blogosphere! But here’s my rendition…

A Prayer for Busy Women – FREE PRINTABLE!

I wasn’t going to do this post quite yet, as I thought it might be a bit early,  but since I received such an overwhelming response to yesterday’s “Holiday Sanity Savers” post, I wanted to go ahead and share this with you. (Today marks 2 months until Christmas, anyways!)

I’ve written something, and originally it was just for me, but I thought others may benefit from it, as well. I simply call it “A Christmas Prayer for Busy Women”. Here’s how it goes:

Dear Father,

During this busy time of the year, I pray that my words and actions are glorifying to YOU. May I not worry so much about attending all the gatherings, the rehearsals, the parties and the programs, but may I be focused on being at YOUR FEET. May I not stress so much about making sure everything is perfect, but may I remember that I am human, and YOU are God. Please remind me to put YOU first, my family second, and that everything else will fall into place, and please remind me that it’s okay to say “NO” if I need to! Please give me an extra dose of thankfulness and joy, and grace for when things don’t go just as I have planned, and help me to keep the peace that YOU have given me in the forefront of these busy days. I love YOU, Lord. You are more than wonderful. Thank You.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Here’s what it looks like:

I know it says “Christmas” on it, but I’ve already printed it out and kept it where I can see it clearly, just to remind myself of what’s really important! Hopefully I’ll have it memorized by the time it’s actually Christmas!

So I wanted to make it available for all of you who shared with me how busy your holiday time becomes! Share it with those you feel would benefit from it! And may we all have a peaceful and holiday season this year!
