It’s day four of the Christmas Home Tour here at The Road to Domestication! It’s been a whirlwind, but it’s been SO much fun photographing these homes, putting these blogs together and sharing them with all of you! I hope you’re having as much fun as I am!

Just a little overview for any new readers: I wanted to do a week of Christmas home tours here on the blog, so I’ve hand-selected five ladies who have invited me into their homes to view their Christmas decor. And I’m sharing it with all of you! So, without further ado, allow me to present…
Kitty’s Home – Every Tree a Memory
Kitty was not a fan of having her photo taken, and I’m not a fan of forcing folks to let me take their photo, so you’ll just have to imagine how wonderful she is after you see how she decorates her home.
She did point out the most important pieces of her Christmas decor right off the bat:
Such a gorgeous nativity! And it’s located right in the entry of her home, along with…
WOW. It took my breath away when I walked in and saw it. Kitty put this tree together in memory of her mother. Here’s a few of the special details:
This delicate angel was one of her mom’s Christmas ornaments, and spent many years on her tree before it was passed on to Kitty. A multitude of white doves also graces this particular tree, because they were a favorite of her moms!
Yes, trees are the main feature of this home, and Kitty says that each one is simply full of memories. “I smile and even cry a little sometimes when I’m putting them up,” she commented. “It’s healing. It’s therapy, really!”
In the formal living room stands this beauty…
This tree is in memory of Kitty’s sister, Missy, who has also passed away. The butterflies are key on this one!
On the way to the living room, we came upon a pretty lil’ tree in the dining room…
…and some beautiful decor in the kitchen, too!
The gumdrop trees were hand-made by Kitty, and the gingerbread houses (see them under the domes?) were made by Kitty and her daughters.
And here’s the family tree!
It almost looks like it’s on fire with all of that glorious red, doesn’t it?!
All the special keepsake ornaments are located on this tree…from the ornaments the girls made in preschool to ornaments that have commemorated special events in the family! This wee stocking actually belonged to Kitty’s grandfather…
…and she created this pretty globe ornament on her last visit to see her Texas-dwelling daughter!
Of course, we can’t leave out the stockings…
Even though all three of Kitty’s girls are grown, married, and two out of three of them are mommas themselves, the entire family comes home on Christmas Eve. They all stay in the house, and their hubbies fill their stockings. Everyone wakes up together on Christmas morning and celebrates! Such a neat tradition!
Just around the corner from the living room is the master bedroom, and maybe my favorite tree in the whole house.
Is that not beautiful?! And do you notice how most of these trees don’t have a traditional tree skirt?
“I don’t love tree skirts,” Kitty emphasized. “I use fabric. And I fluff it up underneath with tulle.”
It’s a great idea, and I love the look it gives!
Here’s a few details from THIS tree:
And this woman even has a tree in her LAUNDRY ROOM! I love it!!! (Hey, that would brighten up the endless task of laundry, right?!)
Now, let me clarify, that there IS indeed some kind of tree in every room of the house. Some are small figurine trees, or wrapped vine trees, etc. But I have specifically hit on every single “decorated” (with ornaments and garlands, etc.) tree in this house.
Now, for the upstairs…
This beauty resides right on the landing, and can be seen from the first floor and from almost anywhere on the second floor, covered in butterflies and reindeer!
And it has a small companion, as well!
The following three trees are strategically placed in grand-baby rooms!
See all the Mickey ears?! Collected by one of Kitty’s daughters!
This one is ALL girl…and I love the idea of decorating with a beautiful dress on the wall…do you see it?
Can you tell that the topper on this one is crafted from pipe cleaners?! So fun!
There’s one last tree in this home, and it’s in the family’s media room:
I think the large ornaments at the base are the PERFECT touch – love that idea! (I won’t say that I haven’t looked for some to match my tree since I saw this, ha!)
My heartfelt thanks to Kitty for opening her home and especially her memories to all of us! I love the idea of walking into any given room of the house and being met with the soft glow of a Christmas tree – such beautiful inspiration!
If you could decorate a tree for every room in your home, what kinds of themes would you have? And what kind of memorial trees would you create? Such an amazing way to honor a loved one, right?
Absolutely gorgeous!!
Oh yes! She did a fantastic job!
Too pretty for words! I love the fact that she has tree’s dedicated in memory of loved ones. I am making a pink Christmas tree this year in memory of my Mom who lost her battle with breast cancer in March. I intend to add ornaments to it each year.
That is a beautiful idea, Shirley!
I have been loving this series. I can’t believe all the trees and so well decorated. I love how they are all themed. I never really thought about doing a tree in remembrance of a loved one. I so love that idea. Will be stealing a few of the ones I’ve seen in this series for next year.
I know, I love the themed trees! And the memory ones – I had never thought about doing that, but it’s so special!
I like the different type of ornaments, and tree toppers.. we are an interfaith family so we have a Jewish star at the top of ours..
Yes! We used to have a Jewish star at the top of ours when I was little!
OMG this is beautiful. I haven’t even got a tree up yet. Beautiful ornaments and decorations. I will have to check out your other posts to see how people are decorating their homes. I love your blog. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your kind words, Anita! I hope the posts inspire you to create something beautiful in your home!
MY GOODNESS, that’s a lot of beautiful trees. I think we will add a 2nd trees to our upstairs this year. I love the butterfly trees.
I know, this got me thinking of what trees I could add, too! HA!
Wow, Kitty sure has a lot of trees. And to think that I get overwhelmed with just our one!
I think it’s really a labor of love for her!
Speechless. These trees are beautiful and the best part is they have heart and memories behind them.
I also mentioned your blog in my todays post regarding this series.
I know, I love the significance behind them! Thank you so much for the mention!!!
Holy smokes, and I’m grumbling about putting up the tree here in Vancouver and then having to do it all over again next week when I get to our place in Oxfordshire. I should just be quiet now. 🙂
HA! Well, if you don’t LOVE doing it, I can understand. She LOVES putting these trees up every year!
So how many three does she have? 🙂 and all are so gorgeous! We have one little three, but at least that ONE is up despite the move.
I lost count, honestly! Because even in the bathrooms and little cubbies she has tiny trees. Really pretty amazing!
Simply BEAUTIFUL!! How many Christmas trees was that? I think I lost count at 6. I love how they are so neatly decorated. It takes me forever just to get up ONE tree, I couldn’t imagine setting up more than one. I am in love with butterflies! Great post! I love this!
I lost count too LOL I love the butterflies, too! 🙂
I do love them all. I especially love that she has some trees in memory of special people in her life. The grandchildren must LOVE being here for Christmas as I’m sure her children would want to be nowhere else, simply magical. The inspiration for the tree skirt replaced with tulle is great. I’m hitting a fabric store tomorrow and am going to pick some up for our work tree, it looks like soft snow, can’t wait to try it out.. I can imagine it’s going to take a ton of yardage, i’ll have to estimate when I get there. excited to add this to my tree 🙂
You can use the batting used to make quilts under the tulle and you’ll need a lot less of it:) It makes it look softer, more like snow!
I’d love to see what you come up with, Kim! And this is a great tip for you here, too! 🙂
Wow! So beautiful! I think my faves are the large ornaments under the tree as well as the tiny gingerbread houses in the domes. Wonderful ideas!
I know! So creative!!!
Pingback: Day Five of the Christmas Home Tour! |
Wow, she did such an amazing job!
She sure did!
Oh my goodness, those trees are just beautiful. I absolutely love the butterfly decorations. They are some of my favorite. And the nativity is wonderful. My mom is passing down our family nativity to us this year and I feel very blessed. I’ve never seen big ornaments like that. How cool!
Oh, what a treasure for you in the nativity, Stephanie! That’s awesome! And I’ve seen some of the big ornaments at places like Lowe’s and Home Depot 🙂
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Christmas trees in one home. They’re amazingly beautiful. My favorite part were the adorable little houses under glass in the kitchen, which I didn’t notice until they were pointed out in the blog post.
I know, weren’t those cute! I never would have thought of doing that!
I love the jumbo ornaments at the base of the tree! Very beautiful home. 🙂

I know, I loved those, too! 🙂
I am in awe of all of the Christmas trees in the various rooms! That is awesome! If that’s not motivation to get cracking on the Christmas decorating, I don’t know what is. This is so motivated me to expand my Christmas decor to other parts of the house. Thanks for sharing this!
Woohoo!!! You go, girl!!!
Each tree has its own personality, and so meticulously put together. Very inspiring! I love all themes involving nature with a combination of all woodland animals and butterflies, moths and dragonflies.
Yes! She’s very creative! One tree is about all the creativity I can muster up LOL
The trees are awesome! Every one of them! Even the laundry room tree but I especially love the purple butterfly ornaments!
Aren’t those gorgeous?!
