Day Four of the Christmas Home Tour!

It’s day four of the Christmas Home Tour here at The Road to Domestication! It’s been a whirlwind, but it’s been SO much fun photographing these homes, putting these blogs together and sharing them with all of you! I hope you’re having as much fun as I am!

If you’ve missed the first three days, no worries, here they are:

Just a little overview for any new readers: I wanted to do a week of Christmas home tours here on the blog, so I’ve hand-selected five ladies who have invited me into their homes to view their Christmas decor. And I’m sharing it with all of you! So, without further ado, allow me to present…

Kitty’s Home – Every Tree a Memory

Kitty was not a fan of having her photo taken, and I’m not a fan of forcing folks to let me take their photo, so you’ll just have to imagine how wonderful she is after you see how she decorates her home.

She did point out the most important pieces of her Christmas decor right off the bat:

Such a gorgeous nativity! And it’s located right in the entry of her home, along with…

WOW. It took my breath away when I walked in and saw it. Kitty put this tree together in memory of her mother. Here’s a few of the special details:

DSC_0163

This delicate angel was one of her mom’s Christmas ornaments, and spent many years on her tree before it was passed on to Kitty. A multitude of white doves also graces this particular tree, because they were a favorite of her moms!

Yes, trees are the main feature of this home, and Kitty says that each one is simply full of memories. “I smile and even cry a little sometimes when I’m putting them up,” she commented. “It’s healing. It’s therapy, really!”

In the formal living room stands this beauty…

This tree is in memory of Kitty’s sister, Missy, who has also passed away. The butterflies are key on this one!

On the way to the living room, we came upon a pretty lil’ tree in the dining room…

…and some beautiful decor in the kitchen, too!

The gumdrop trees were hand-made by Kitty, and the gingerbread houses (see them under the domes?) were made by Kitty and her daughters.

And here’s the family tree!

DSC_0174

It almost looks like it’s on fire with all of that glorious red, doesn’t it?!

All the special keepsake ornaments are located on this tree…from the ornaments the girls made in preschool to ornaments that have commemorated special events in the family! This wee stocking actually belonged to Kitty’s grandfather…

…and she created this pretty globe ornament on her last visit to see her Texas-dwelling daughter!

DSC_0179

Of course, we can’t leave out the stockings…

DSC_0178

Even though all three of Kitty’s girls are grown, married, and two out of three of them are mommas themselves, the entire family comes home on Christmas Eve. They all stay in the house, and their hubbies fill their stockings. Everyone wakes up together on Christmas morning and celebrates! Such a neat tradition!

Just around the corner from the living room is the master bedroom, and maybe my favorite tree in the whole house.

DSC_0184

Is that not beautiful?! And do you notice how most of these trees don’t have a traditional tree skirt?

“I don’t love tree skirts,” Kitty emphasized. “I use fabric. And I fluff it up underneath with tulle.”

It’s a great idea, and I love the look it gives!

Here’s a few details from THIS tree:

And this woman even has a tree in her LAUNDRY ROOM! I love it!!! (Hey, that would brighten up the endless task of laundry, right?!)

Now, let me clarify, that there IS indeed some kind of tree in every room of the house. Some are small figurine trees, or wrapped vine trees, etc. But I have specifically hit on every single “decorated” (with ornaments and garlands, etc.) tree in this house.

Now, for the upstairs…

DSC_0001

This beauty resides right on the landing, and can be seen from the first floor and from almost anywhere on the second floor, covered in butterflies and reindeer!

And it has a small companion, as well!

The following three trees are strategically placed in grand-baby rooms!

See all the Mickey ears?! Collected by one of Kitty’s daughters!

DSC_0013

This one is ALL girl…and I love the idea of decorating with a beautiful dress on the wall…do you see it?

DSC_0015

Can you tell that the topper on this one is crafted from pipe cleaners?! So fun!

There’s one last tree in this home, and it’s in the family’s media room:

I think the large ornaments at the base are the PERFECT touch – love that idea! (I won’t say that I haven’t looked for some to match my tree since I saw this, ha!)

My heartfelt thanks to Kitty for opening her home and especially her memories to all of us! I love the idea of walking into any given room of the house and being met with the soft glow of a Christmas tree – such beautiful inspiration!

If you could decorate a tree for every room in your home, what kinds of themes would you have? And what kind of memorial trees would you create? Such an amazing way to honor a loved one, right?

  1. Too pretty for words! I love the fact that she has tree’s dedicated in memory of loved ones. I am making a pink Christmas tree this year in memory of my Mom who lost her battle with breast cancer in March. I intend to add ornaments to it each year.

  2. I have been loving this series. I can’t believe all the trees and so well decorated. I love how they are all themed. I never really thought about doing a tree in remembrance of a loved one. I so love that idea. Will be stealing a few of the ones I’ve seen in this series for next year.

  3. OMG this is beautiful. I haven’t even got a tree up yet. Beautiful ornaments and decorations. I will have to check out your other posts to see how people are decorating their homes. I love your blog. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Speechless. These trees are beautiful and the best part is they have heart and memories behind them.

I also mentioned your blog in my todays post regarding this series.

  5. Holy smokes, and I’m grumbling about putting up the tree here in Vancouver and then having to do it all over again next week when I get to our place in Oxfordshire. I should just be quiet now. 🙂

  6. Simply BEAUTIFUL!! How many Christmas trees was that? I think I lost count at 6. I love how they are so neatly decorated. It takes me forever just to get up ONE tree, I couldn’t imagine setting up more than one. I am in love with butterflies! Great post! I love this!

  7. I do love them all. I especially love that she has some trees in memory of special people in her life. The grandchildren must LOVE being here for Christmas as I’m sure her children would want to be nowhere else, simply magical. The inspiration for the tree skirt replaced with tulle is great. I’m hitting a fabric store tomorrow and am going to pick some up for our work tree, it looks like soft snow, can’t wait to try it out.. I can imagine it’s going to take a ton of yardage, i’ll have to estimate when I get there. excited to add this to my tree 🙂

  9. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Christmas trees in one home. They’re amazingly beautiful. My favorite part were the adorable little houses under glass in the kitchen, which I didn’t notice until they were pointed out in the blog post.

  10. I am in awe of all of the Christmas trees in the various rooms! That is awesome! If that’s not motivation to get cracking on the Christmas decorating, I don’t know what is. This is so motivated me to expand my Christmas decor to other parts of the house. Thanks for sharing this!

  11. Each tree has its own personality, and so meticulously put together. Very inspiring! I love all themes involving nature with a combination of all woodland animals and butterflies, moths and dragonflies.
