A Lil’ Garden Update!

One of my big plans for our backyard is to have three (LARGE) raised beds full of vegetables! I’m working on introducing more and more veggies into every meal; sometimes even “hidden” in places my husband would not expect, ha! (Do you have to do that, too?!)

However, I’m still working a full-time job, running my own business on the side and doing this lil’ blog…so I don’t have all the time in the world to cultivate a huge garden right now. And I’m really good at overwhelming myself with too much to do! So I wanted to start VERY small – see what grows well in our yard and in our climate…and, let’s face it…see what I DON’T kill!

So, as of right now, I have three things growing. Yes, just three! But they’re all growing WELL, so that’s the idea, right?

1. Tomatoes – There are SO many of them – just clusters and clusters! I can’t wait to slice these up with some fresh mozzarella and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar!

2. Potatoes – This was a totally happy accident. You know what happens when you leave some potatoes in the pantry for too long? They start to sprout! I had totally forgotten about a pretty lil’ red potato I had left over, and when I found it, it had sprouted three BIG ol’ sprouts! So I cut them out and planted them!

3. Pineapple – It takes over a year for a pineapple to grow, and this one is still pretty new, but it’s doing great! Once I make sure I can grow one, I’m gonna be growing a BUNCH of them!

A few more things I’m wanting to plant in my veggie garden as time goes on:

  • Corn
  • Sunflowers (for the seeds!)
  • Bell peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Romaine lettuce

I’m also wanting to add some citrus trees (probably a lemon and an orange tree) as well as some blueberry bushes and some strawberry plants…and maybe some grapes, too!

So what about you? Do you do any gardening? What is your FAVORITE thing to grow?

  1. oh my gosh I am so jealous you can grow things. I literally have the black thumb of death, I can’t tell ppl this enough I honestly can’t keep anything alive lol

  2. I love the idea of growing my own vegetables, but I’m always afraid I’d spend all my time and love planting something and then be devastated if it does turn out. Good luck! Clever idea replanting the potato that sprouted- that’s happened in my cupboard once or twice.

If you’re interested, I’m starting a new link up over at my blog on Tuesdays. It’s a great opportunity to share your content and connect with other awesome bloggers- I’d love to have you share a post!
