Happy Birthday to The Road to Domestication! (And a GIVEAWAY!)

Yes indeed, it is the birthday of my sweet little blog!

Three years ago today, I published the first post on this blog. I had no idea what I was doing. (Let’s face it – I still don’t! HA!) I didn’t know what would happen with it. All I knew was that I needed to have a creative writing outlet, and I hoped that would be what the blog would become. And it did! It became all that and more!

And you know what? I learned a few things along the way! (These things I’ve learned are mainly about blogging…but when I went back and looked at them, I realized they could apply to any part of life!)

1. Do what works for you

I came to the point when I realized that, unfortunately, I could not blog seven days a week. It just wasn’t happening. I mean, there are still only 24 hours in a day, right? Sometimes that seems like such a short period! So I had to modify things and do what worked best for me.

2. Blog about what you LOVE

I could easily get carried away on a variety of topics, but I make it a point to blog about things I love and nothing else. Kind of like I make it a point to only purchase clothing, or household decor, or anything else optional unless I LOVE it.

3. Create guidelines as you go

When you’re doing something new to you, there’s a lot of trial and error! So when you find something that works, and works well, make it standard practice!

Basic Tips To Get Started With Aqua Aerobics

First of all, let me announce the winner of the digital kitchen scale giveaway!

Jennifer Williams, you are the winner! Congratulations! Send me an email at Kristen@theroadtodomestication.com and I will hook you up!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the giveaway! No worries if you didn’t win, there are ALWAYS more in the works!

Now, on to aqua aerobics. I do hope that those of you who were still experiencing snow as late as last week are now DONE with the snow, because I don’t want you punching your computer screen in frustration over this post about working out in a pool…

I (like many of you) am in the midst of trying to live a healthier life. I’m not completely overhauling my routine or doing anything crazy, I’m just taking notice of what I’m doing now that could be detrimental to my health and trying to make better choices! One of those choices I have made is to be more active! And I’m not quite sure I’ve found my niche activity. Oh, I walk about 2 miles a day, so that’s not bad. However, I’d love to find something that I would enjoy doing that is good for my fitness level, as well! (Remember, no matter how “domestic” I’m striving to be, I can do more when I take care of ME properly!)

Funny, how I’m looking for something interesting, when the lovely Kaitlin from An Apple Per Day contacted me and wanted to know if I was interested in her doing a guest post on Aqua Aerobics. As the discussion between my husband and myself over whether or not to get a pool continues, I thought it would be a great idea! And after I read the post, I was even more convinced that this had nothing to do with the picture I had in my mind of my grandma with her gal-pals in their swim caps and skirted bathing suits hopping around in the retirement community pool!

Kaitlin Gardner started AnApplePerDay.com to further her passion for a family friendly, green living lifestyle. She is married to her best friend and lives in Pennsylvania. In her spare time, she loves to go hiking, biking and enjoy nature. She just started her first book about living an eco-friendly, healthy, natural lifestyle.

Let’s see what she has to say about aqua aerobics, shall we?

I did it! I finally got my husband to join me for an aqua aerobics class. He had heard me raving about my classes for several weeks, and kept looking very intrigued. He finally asked one day, “So what is so special about these water workouts?” I could hear the challenge, so I just replied, “Why don’t you go with me one time?” He did!

Digital Kitchen Scale Review…and GIVEAWAY from TMart!

**PLEASE NOTE: While TMart.com DID provide me with this product to test at no cost, I was not in any way paid for my review. The following opinion is hereby my own.**

One of my favorite kitchen tools when I was younger was my mom’s scale. I remember mom being on a diet a lot (HA! Sorry, mom!) and when she was she would use her scale to fix her portions. Her scale looked like this, except with a flat top:

il_340x270.508795661_9x3m

Is that the one, mom? It’s close to it!

I always enjoyed trying to see how much I could put on the scale before it was too much to weigh. And I may or may not have learned of a few things that would NOT work on the scale…but that’s another story for another day!

Anyways, I’ve never had a scale in my own kitchen before, mainly because I was just not sure of the kind of scale I wanted to use! Did I want a neat vintage one? Did I want a modern digital one? Decisions, decisions…

Until TMart contacted me to do a giveaway, and one of the items on their list to review and give away was a kitchen scale.

Rodan & Fields Review…and GIVEAWAY!

**PLEASE NOTE: While Molly DeMarcellus DID provide me with this product to test at no cost, I was not in any way paid for my review. The following opinion is hereby my own.**

Normally all of you lovely readers come here to the blog to see posts about organization, home, garden…and anything else “domestic”, right? Well, allow me to submit the fact that anything falling into the category of “self-care” is also essential to a happy domestic life! Don’t you agree? If YOU are healthy and happy and well-taken care of, then it certainly stands to reason that you will have more energy to organize, cook, clean, decorate and enjoy your life with your family!

Now that we’re all on the same page, I want to share with you something amazing that I’ve discovered: Rodan & Fields.

Not familiar with the name? How about Proactiv? A bit more familiar? (If you’re still having trouble, just think Adam Levine, he’s the spokesperson for Proactiv these days. And ladies, we all pay attention to Adam Levine when he comes across the screen, right? THOSE are the Proactiv commercials!)
