Happy Thursday, all!

We had a jam-packed choir rehearsal at church last night, as we’re prepping for our Christmas program AND we’re prepping for Grandparent’s Day, which is THIS SUNDAY! (Just a point of information for you right there!) Since we’re anticipating having lots of grandparents with us, we pulled some of the beautiful old hymns and were refreshing our memories. And I learned something new! And absolutely beautiful.

“The Love of God” is one of my favorites! Do you know it?

The Love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest start,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

But the third verse is the one that’s always gotten to me. It paints such a beautiful picture!

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Isn’t that just gorgeous! I mean, when I think about the words, I’m simply overwhelmed.

The song was written by Frederick Lehman, that I knew.

A handsome fellow, wasn’t he?

But what our music minister shared with us that I DIDN’T know was this:

Verse three of the song, the last one above that I love so much? It was actually written on the wall of a room in an insane asylum. It was written by a man who was said to be demented, and the lines were only discovered when they placed the man in his coffin. WOW. (Did you just get chills reading that? Because I got chills typing it!) We don’t know who the man was. And I sure wish we did! But, even though everyone thought that man was crazy, and maybe he was…still, he KNEW about the love of God. Incredible.

When words move me, you know me, I go on Pinterest and look for a printable. I found one…but I didn’t like it too much. So, again, I just made my own. Here it is:
