Most of you know that I work full-time in insurance, but I also have a photography business that I own/operate, as well. I was working on editing some wedding photos this week, and I started thinking about all the creativity I’ve seen at weddings over the years. There’s some really cute ideas I’ve had the privilege to photograph! So I thought I’d take a post (or two, at this rate) and share them with all of you! All photos to follow taken by: ME!
1. See if your venue will pay tribute to you! (This couple’s reception location gave them a shout-out!)
2. Use items that are treasured! (Such as the family Bible!)
3. Weather-appropriate items always work! (Like a parasol in Florida!)
4. Don’t be afraid to buck “tradition” a little! (Like cake AND cupcakes!)
5. Centerpieces don’t have to be “fancy”! (I LOVE what they did with this tin can!)
6. Everything doesn’t HAVE to be matchy-matchy! (I’m LOVING the brides who are wearing fashion-statement shoes instead of “dyeables”!)
7. Have a useful and personal “guest book”! (Like this piece of art that can be hung in the home of the bride and groom!)
Or one like this!
8. Cover unseemly areas in a very simple manner (like this sheer white backdrop that sets the pictures off beautifully!)
9. Mix accents! (Like roses and leather, traditional and flashy!)
10. Give your guests something personal as they go! (Like your favorite sweet!)
11. Honor loved ones who have passed on, and let your guests participate, too!
And this bride carried pieces of loved one’s jewelry in her bouquet as a memorial to them!
12. Don’t be afraid to be unique! (See all the tools on the walls? And I LOVE those cake “pedestals”!)
Yes, I have enough of these to fill another blog post – coming soon!
What was your favorite? Get any ideas from this post? I sure do love to see people’s creativity shine through!
Those are great shot!! I liked the cake and cupcake photo, and also the last one the Lets eat Cake.. I guess i like desserts!
HA! Me too LOL
Oh my gosh, I love all of these ideas! I actually got married in Vegas, so I totally eliminated all this sort of thing š
Hey, we seriously thought about doing that too LOL
Loved the parasol pic! So many great ideas in here I will stealā¦somedayā¦.
Please do! š
I love this! I am going to post this on my travel agency page on facebook if you don’t mind. We did the #8 idea and have our frame hanging in our bedroom. LOVE IT!
Oh yes, please do! Thank you for sharing! š
All great ideas for weddings! My favorite is the Remembrance tree, what a neat idea to allow guests to participate also. I’m Pinning this to my Weddings board!
I know, I loved that! Thank you for the pin! š
I plan and direct weddings from time to time and I’m always looking for new ideas.
I’m with you, dyed shoes are so last decade. š
Heck yes! š
These really are very unique and interesting ideas. They make the wedding something very special and certainly not likely to be forgotten! I do love the tin can center piece. I also love the idea of a small wedding cake with lots of cupcakes on the side.
Those were not only good ideas but cost-effective, too!
Adding personality to a wedding is very important. It’s nice to feel like the center of attention and know that the day is truly special to you and your new spouse.
Exactly! Thanks for your comment!
I love that you can make a wedding whatever you want. My wedding day however was a bit unique. I had the stomach flu so we had a garbage can between us, I refused to postpone it as we would have had to get a new license, lol. It was an interesting day that definitely made a lot of memories!
Good gracious! I hope you felt better before your honeymoon was over!
I had to laugh at those unexpected shoes under the white wedding dress. I like it!! Very different and unique. I also like the rustic table with the cakes on it.
Yes, I’m a big fan of cute shoes! I’ve had three other brides this year who have matched their shoes to their bridesmaid dresses! Nice touch!
My wedding was more like a party and less like a traditional wedding, and I loved it all. I like how couples are stepping out of the box these days and getting really creative with their weddings. It’s refreshing to see!
Our was similar to that, too, Ashley!
Nice ideas. I would like to see weddings that go off tradition but for me, I am still into the traditional all white matching wedding.
Those ARE beautiful!
How fun!!! I love all the creativity that goes into weddings! I always like a little tradition mixed into the fun trends. Thanks for sharing! Amber
Me too, Amber!
You’ve got a lot of great tips and ideas here. I love the idea of a parasol, especially in Florida! And I love the idea of a basket full of treats for guests to indulge in at will. š
Oh yes, the guests were loving their bride and groom’s thoughtfulness LOL
Those are such beautiful and simple ways to create a memorable wedding. I just love the thumbprint idea!
I know, that one was so sweet!
Love all these ideas! My favorite picture is the one with the bride looking at the book. Thank you for sharing and the great advice.
Yes, I think that was her grandmother’s Bible, if I’m not mistaken…
Gorgeous images – you’re a fabulous photographer! I love those shoes that bride had on – very classy š
Thank you, Renee, I try! And yes, those shoes win the award for BEST!
Great ideas! I shared on FB because my daughters have lots of friends getting married or engaged. Thank!
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
I have 2 sons getting married in Sept. These are great ideas! Love them Brandi. I really like the parasol, bible and jewelry in the flowers.
My youngest son got married last year, they did the thumb print guest registry and she painted the tree. Cool idea.
Friends renewed their vows at 25 years and did the signature mat around a photo of them. Great ideas.
I love all the creativity! So fun!
At our wedding, we framed our engagement photo and had our guests sign the mat. It’s one of our favorite art pieces! Being creative is what sets your wedding apart from all the others.
Exactly! I love that!
The individual shoe styles are super fun, and I love the signatures in the frame!
Oh yes, as far as I’m concerned, any kind of shoes are always fun LOL
I remember seeing a movie where the bride wore white tennis shoes with a bright ribbon for laces, and thought it was very cute. I’d definitely go with shoes that had personality. I love the non-traditional wedding ideas.
Oh, that’s a great idea! And she would be comfy, too!
great pictures of a very special day! I just love weddings. I haven’t been to one in a while
You should come visit š I have two more in the next two months LOL
So many great ideas! I loved the cupcakes because they looked so yummy, the bible picture, so meaningful and the thumb picture, what a great idea! Oh and there were many more! Will pin some for my kids future wedding ;).
Aw, thanks for the pins, Anna!
These are great ideas – we did quite a few of them. My favourite one was the honouring of loved ones that have passed away. It was very important to us to include them
Absolutely! So special!
I love the jewelry in the bouquet. What great ideas for a wedding. I had a small wedding in Reno, then went to Tahoe afterward.
I know, I was wishing I had done that with MY bouquet when I saw it LOL
I like the ideas that use juxtaposition (roses and leather) or fun elements (moon pies and crayons with flowers in tin cans) I also loved the rustic feel with the wagon and banner! I would go crazy with fun details like that.
Oh yes, so much fun!
I like the fashion statement shoes! They really show personality.
Absolutely!
So many creative ideas here. Things have gotten much more interesting since my friends and I were all getting married!
I know, since I got married, too! No Pinterest when I got married…good thing, I think I would have gone crazy!
Wonderful ideas for a wedding! I love them all!! WOW! Especially the bible picture and the cake table! WOW! Such a wonderful idea!
I know, I know so many creative people!
These are great ideas with beautiful picture to illustrate them. I would probably pick the last one as my favorite because I like things like this that are a little bit different and unique.
Yes, me too!
These are all so sweet! I had a nice wedding once and it was great but if I ever marry again, I will elope! I am not going through all of that again!! š
HA!!! You and me both! LOL
What great ideas and how sweet! I would love to relive my wedding again with some of your great tips!
You could do it! I want for us to renew our vows at some point…these ideas would be great to incorporate!
These pictures are awesome! I love the ideas! If I was getting married again, I’d just love to do some of these things. I plan to renew vows in 4 years, so maybe I will do things like this!
My thoughts exactly!
I do not miss shooting weddings, but I love all the details! Those photos look like great ideas for brides.
I know it, I’m trying to get out of shooting them myself…but somehow I just keep booking them LOL
These are all wonderful ideas. Makes me wish I had a wedding now
LOL Be careful what you ask for LOL
First off, you took some great photos!!! =) I love these ideas. We had a lot of “nontraditional” things in our wedding. We had a foot washing ceremony, combined unity sand instead of a unity candle, and at our reception we didn’t even have a cake!!! Just chocolate fondue! (Neither of us like cake much). It’s so important to make your wedding day about what YOU want and not what every one else expects!
Thank you, Amber! I LOVE the foot-washing idea!!!
These are really good ideas. I absolutely LOVE the shoes. We basically eloped so I didn’t do any of this and I would have!
Oh, but I’m sure you were much less stressed LOL
Those wedding pictures are awesome. I love the atmosphere and the joy shared.
Thank you! Weddings ARE fun, aren’t they?
These are all such neat ideas. I love the thumbprint tree idea, so sweet!
I know! Very special!
My friend is getting married this August so I will definitely be passing on this great information.
Thank you! š
All of these photos are gorgeous! I love the way the shoes pop from under her dress. Thanks for sharing! š
Yeah, those are some great shoes š
I love weddings. Your ideas are so simple yet elegant. I love it!
Thank you! š Weddings are my fave, too!
OH more please! … I feel like I’m on your Christmas tour all over again!! So much fun!! Weddings are not in my near future.. not until grandsons get a bit (lot) older.. but so much inspiration for other events. The picture with large border for others to sign.. I did that for a going away gift a few years ago. I printed an office outing picture in black and white, hand wrote a farewell poem around photo then had all the co-workers in the building sign the border.. I knew it was a hit when it was opened and she had tears at the personal gift. So much nicer than a coffee mug!! haha.. but then again even a coffee mug could be made to be personalized thanks to pinterest! So many great inspirations here for so much more than just weddings… I can’t stand the suspense.. can’t wait for your next post!! Christmas all over again!!!!
HA!!! I’m glad you liked it, Kim! And that is a fantastic idea for a gift, too! I love it!!!
I love weddings! There are so many themes to explore, not to mention the gorgeous dresses and flowers! I love that you’ve covered these fresh ideas!
Yes, weddings are my favorite, mostly now that I don’t have to plan one anymore LOL
